There are not many things I love more than taking pictures of babies!  Some people think that is nuts but I have found an approach that seems to limit the number of baby meltdowns per session and makes it fun for everyone!

I met up with the Beck Family this sunny and snowy Saturday at their home in Old Irving Park.  We started out in their living room where Owen just crawled around and played with his toys.  From there, we spent a little time playing with Mom and Dad and catching some really big smiles.  Owen is for sure a very cute happy baby and like any other one year old, he loves to put things in his mouth 😉

At the end of the session, the family decided to bundle up and capture a few photographs in the snow.  The last shot is probably my favorite from the session.  We tried to get little Owen to hold Mom and Dad’s hand to walk but this little boy decided that he would walk on his own time.  That will be a fun memory 20 years from now!

What a fun session!  So great to meet you all!

I don’t typically post personal blogs…but here it goes!  2012 was one heck of a year!  Finally 11 years of  hard work is starting to pay off.  For those of you who know me well, I spent the past 11 years trying to establish a career that was not only successful but was also fun and full of freedom.  2012 was my first year of being 100% self-employeed and I couldn’t of asked for a better year.

This year was also the first year that I had a second to breath and absorb everything that had happened and really enjoy the present.

So what did I do this year?  I shot more weddings than ever at some really exciting Chicago wedding venues including Union Station, Navy Pier Crystal Gardens, Chicago Park Hyatt, the Peggy Notebaert Museum, and I traveled to California and Florida for engagement sessions.  I traveled to Florida, New Orleans, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Michigan, and Iowa to spend time with friends and family.  I went to a movie premier in Vegas with my boyfriend for “Where the Trail Ends” in which he did all the slow motion cinematography for a mountain bike movie he helped film in Nepal, China, and Canada for Redbull and Freeride  (so insanely proud of him). My photography was featured on Style Me Pretty, Interior Design Magazine, Indie Tot, Baby Lifestyles, Elizabeth Anne Designs, and Be U Weddings.  I was accepted to Style Me Pretty’s little black book.  I started photographing families and children. I joined the 21st century and finally purchased an iphone. I kept my tan lines clear up to December. My dog lost 4lbs and is no longer considered obese (really proud of him too). And I finally have a real adult like apartment that is only lacking decent bath towels and kitchen utensils (its fine, I never cook anyway).

So I hope I don’t sounds like I am tooting my own horn, its just great to finally reflect on a year where all my hard work is starting to pay off.

So for 2013, my goal is simple;  to remember to tell my friends and family how much I love them, to appreciate all the helping hands along the way, to be more patient and understanding, and to make 2013 even better than 2012!  Oh and to achieve six pack abs.

Below are some photos from 2012.  Some were taken with my DSLR, some with an iphone, and some were taken by someone else.  I hope you enjoy them as much as a I enjoyed reflecting on this year!

Happy New Years everyone!!!  Be safe and have fun!

Back in October, I had the pleasure of shooting a wedding for Lynne and Chris at the Park Hyatt on Michigan Ave while working for Serendipity Portraits.  Lynne and Chris’ wedding may have been low-key but their style was far from that!   We started the day early getting photos of Lynne and Chris getting ready in their rooms at the Park Hyatt.  We then went up to the patio at NoMI for a first look. After that, we took a little trip to the Museum of Contemporary Art for a few more shots.  After all the pictures were done, they had a small intimate ceremony at the Park Hyatt followed by a reception.  What a wonderful day with wonderful people!  Best of wishes to you both!
